It is so funny to me the ingredients I used to take for granted. I mean if you want chocolate milk you have to buy chocolate syrup at the store. Right?! WRONG! You can make your own homemade chocolate syrup for a fraction of the price that tastes so much better than store bought. Folks this stuff will blow your mind! You can even get creative and add some peppermint extract to make Mint Chocolate Syrup, or substitute in Orange extract for a Chocolate Orange Syrup. I will never buy store bought chocolate syrup again!

I found these bottles at the dollar store. I used a funnel to fill it. Now if I was just paying attention to how much I was pouring instead of trying to take apicture, Iwouldn’thave made such a mess.

I turned my back to get a glass of milk and my 5-year-old was squeezing the bottle to get it to ooze syrup. LOL. I am pretty sure it is a hit!

Boy this would be so great to make. My granddaughters drink a lot of chocolate milk when they come over for the weekend and making it like this would be so much easier and cheaper too. I love the bottle you are using to keep it in too. Thank you so much for sharing this. 🙂

  3. I was going to ask how long it keeps for, but then thought again, its chocolate… it will be eaten way before it goes bad! Do you think if you added more cocoa powder that you would get a more dark chocolate syrup?

A word of caution- do NOT turn your back for a second to put a dish in the sink while stirring or it will immediately boil over and melt your glass stovetop. not that i have any personal experience…

This is awesome! Thanky you -and my kids thank you! 🙂 In my quest to eat healthier and without High Fructose Corn Syrup, I recently found a similar “recipe” for choc milk with cocoa and confec sugar that had to be made in a blender. My kids liked it but not the bubbly froth that the blender created. They love this – and so do I. Oh, and it is good on ice cream too! I have made it several times already.

How much Hershey syrup for a gallon of milk? ›

To make chocolate milk, mix 1 cup of syrup to 1 gallon of milk.

Do I need to refrigerate homemade chocolate syrup? ›

The syrup will be just fine at room temperature, though the second it's opened, you'll want to keep it cool. Once your syrup reaches the refrigerator, you'll want to keep your eye — and nose — on your bottle. Much like opened maple syrup that hasn't been refrigerated, opened chocolate sauce can spoil.

What are the four main ingredients in chocolate? ›

The main ingredients used in chocolate production are cocoa liquor (obtained by grinding cocoa beans), cocoa butter (obtained by pressing cocoa liquor), sugar, and milk (in the case of milk chocolate) [3].

What keeps chocolate syrup from hardening? ›

Use Corn Syrup

Adding corn syrup to melted chocolate can keep it from hardening when cooled, making it perfect for a glossy cake glaze or dipping sauce.

Is melted chocolate the same as chocolate syrup? ›

Do not substitute chocolate syrup for melted chocolate in any recipe. (Plus, let's be honest, the flavor of some of these ice cream toppings—especially those made mostly with high fructose corn syrup or corn syrup—isn't as rich.) The consistency is different and the results will be less than optimal.

Will chocolate syrup harden? ›

Chocolate Syrup will also harden a bit as you let it cool, so it could be used as a dairy-free ganache. It would be an excellent frosting, although I would not recommend making truffles with this recipe.

Why does Hershey's chocolate syrup need to be refrigerated? ›

Chocolate syrup apparently runs at a water activity of about 0.84. That means that, like corn syrup or maple syrup, it's resistant to most bacteria and yeast, but may pick up a layer of mold on the surface. I keep the stuff in the fridge because my mom did, but that doesn't look to be critical to long shelf life.

What milk does Hershey's use? ›

How long can you store homemade chocolate syrup? ›

It keeps really well in the refrigerator for up to three months. This homemade version is thicker and less sugary than store-bought. There are so many ways to use it – as an ice cream topping, drizzled over cakes and stirred into drinks.

Typically, commercially produced chocolate syrup can last anywhere from 1 to 2 years when unopened. However, it's important to note that the quality and taste may deteriorate over time, even if the product remains safe to consume.

It's safe to store chocolate syrup in the pantry for two to three years. After it's opened, however, move the chocolate syrup to the refrigerator, where it should remain safe to consume for up to six months. Visible mold or separation or a rancid smell are all indicators of chocolate syrup that has spoiled.

Why can't you refrigerate Nesquik chocolate syrup? ›
