Instructions
Instructions are for 4 servings. Please modify as needed.
Rinse and peel the rutabaga. Grate coarsely with a grater or in a food processor. Shred the cheese the same way.
Mix cheese and rutabaga with the other ingredients in a bowl. Let sit for a few minutes.
Form 12 patties with your hands and place in a frying pan with butter. (Or use a large spoon and scoop mixture directly into the pan.)
Fry on medium-high. Turn the patties after a few minutes. Lower heat towards the end. Keep cooked fritters warm in a warm oven.
Serve with sliced avocado and a dollop of lemon-juice flavored mayonnaise.
Tip!
Frying cheese may also be called grilling cheese, halloumi or Queso Para Frier. If salmon isn’t your favorite, serve the patties with tuna, mackerel or any other fatty fish. Delish!

This is a great tasting recipe. I have never had rutabaga or Haloumi. One suggestion I have is to wring out the grated Rutabaga in a towel because it had too much moisture and they fell apart. I might also add some Baking soda next time I make them.

I really enjoyed the recipe. This is a first for me for rutabaga and grilling cheese, however, having tried it, I can see myself adding this as a dish to my weekly LCHF meals. I had the same experience with the first batch of fritters, they fell apart, and I will try squeezing some of the moisture out as well, but my solution, to add an additional egg, worked wonders as well.

Here is some information I got off the internet about rutabagas. I have found that they contain 33g of carbs, 9g of fiber and 17g of sugar. My question is how is this considered a Ketogenic meal? I thought any fruit or vegetable containing high amounts of carbs was considered a no, no on this plan. Especially during the fat burning stage of the diet.

Hi Lisette!
I agree that this a borderline case. 11 gram for one serving is a upper limit for a Ketogenic meal. But if you slightly reduce the amount of rutabagas and your other meal(s) this day are stricter then I would say that it's OK. :)

I made these and really enjoy them. I didn't have trouble with them falling apart but they were very fragile until cooked. I fried them in a pan and then finished them in the oven. They freeze very well. I reduced the portion size to two patties and it always satisfies me. Thanks for the great recipe!

It is impossible for me to find rutabagas where i live so i made the same recipe but with zucchini. But i don't know if that is "ok" for a keto diet, so what can i replace rutabagas with?

It was a learning lesson for me that a rutabaga is a waxed turnip.

Really yummy recipe. The rutabaga was quite wet but I just 'wrung' the excess moisture out as I did each pattie. Having for lunch tomorrow. Can't wait!

This recipe surprised me. I was skeptical of the rutabaga, but this was actually quite tasty. Exceeded my expectations.

Nagyon, nagyon finom volt. Sajnos karórépát nem kaptam, fehérrépával helyettesítettem. Nekünk a 2 személyes adag nagyon sok volt, muszáj csökkenteni az adagot🙈🤩
