Synopsis
Evil Souls Rule
Itinerant traveler Cassie Grant comes out of a car accident in Glastonbury, England, with partial memory loss. The deeply regretful driver allows her to convalesce at a large rural home, where she becomes friends with the woman's stepson, Michael. As Cassie delves into Michael's research about an old, newly discovered area church, it triggers some strange premonitions and offers gradual clues about her deeper links to this British community.

Another horror movie with Christina Ricci? Don’t mind if I do! And I do love a British countryside horror film anytime!
I am pretty sure I watched this when it came out but couldn’t remember anything about it. I also thought it came out in the late 00’s so it was an unexpected little nostalgic trip to 2001 when flash cut editing and quick zooms were all the rage.
It’s decent. It’s got a great idea that just isn’t brought to life very well, much like the last film I watched with Ricci, After.Life.
Nonetheless, it’s fine for a weekend watch and it looks good in that special early 00’s way. Plus I’ll watch anything with Christina and be happy as a clam, whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean like how would I know if a clam was happy or not.

Review by GoodBadMovies ★½ 5

A plot hole-riddled mess. Like they fell in love with every idea from the initial brainstorming session and included them ALL, but explored NONE, and then had no clue how to mash them all up to create a cogent story. Inconceivable that nobody intervened or asked questions, but I guess they were like, 'Fuck it, it's 2002 and TWISTS are IN!’ threw ina corn field scene, and released it straight to DVD with the Christina Ricci x Signs cover. I wasn't bored.
Here's what happens (spoilers, but who cares?): some Glastonbury Festival goers fall through a hole to their deaths, revealing ancient ruins dating back to Joseph of Arimathea (googled, he's real), a disciple who witnessed Jesus's crucifixion and moved…

Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow, Buffalo '66) is like a thousand dollar titty in this moldy fifty cent Salvation Army drop box bra of a movie.

exactly what I was looking for: very stupid 00s supernatural/religious/horror/thriller gruel to look at while I packed to fly home. no nutritional value in sight but it did the trick even though I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone lol

Horror Hunt #37 (July 2021)
25. From my own physical collection
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------More like The Snoring ahaha!
There is some interesting lore to be had here. Basically the titular gathering is a group of people who have been cursed to an eternity in limbo since they witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus Christ out of morbid curiosity. This gathering is rediscovered after a pair of youths fall into the buried church that once held the damned souls in question. Now they haunt a small English village and seem to foretell a terrible tragedy, a tragedy which they once again will observe. Naturally it is now up to a random American woman to do something about this mystery.
But interesting lore can…

Review by A Projected Life ★★½
A good concept, moody settings and the presence of Christina Ricci don’t make up for the problems of this film; starting with a new editing by Miramax that accentuates the feeling of a TV Movie in the final product (I’m curious to know how much better the original cut is) and also grounds it into a poor kind of horror, usually found in movies from the end of the 90s and beginning of the new century.

Different plot lines, all begging you to suspend your disbelief, come together in a small rural village in England. Ricci gets hit by a car and is housed by the lady driver, so conveniently Ricci can also take care of the children. They live in a house which used to be a home where children were abused by some prominent city members, and the driver's wife is investigating a recent discovery of an ancient church, in the ground, where odd statues are watching the Crucifiction.
And these all melt together. It seems ridiculous, and actually it is, but still the entire proceedings remain watchable in one way or another. I cannot explain how or why, because really nothing stands out,…

The things I do for Christina Ricci, she did pretty good but the movie itself was uneven & couldn’t build off the creepy atmosphere it had.

Cool premise of a long buried church being uncovered quickly devolves into a bland, nonsensical mess. Christina Ricci makes me thirsty though. 1.5 out of 5 wet pussies.
