We know that the movie will develop and expand the backstory of Valak who fans will have seen in the first Nun movie, Annabelle: Creation, and The Conjuring 2. This powerful demon manifests as a nun capable of intense demonic possession, forcing people into horrendous acts of violence. The trailers of the movie have teased some new information about the demon. We have learned that Valak was once an angel. This movie looks set to explore the character in more depth than ever. After being banished in the first movie, Valak returns to curse a school in France in The Nun 2. However, familiar faces gather to confront it.

What's going on with Frenchie and Sister Irene?

We know that Frenchie is trying to rebuild his life after the awful events of the first movie, which saw him suffering demonic possession.
